Polar Bear Swim 2021

Fundraiser for Kootenay Co-op Radio and Friends of Kootenay Lake.

The 2021 Polar Bear Swim is over! See you next year!

Twenty-one brave ambassadors helped raise almost $3000 for Kootenay Co-op Radio and the Friends of Kootenay Lake Stewardship Society. At least fifty others participated by taking a dip in their favorite body of chilly water.

It was a big success thanks to our amazing community!

Thanks to over 100 people who supported our great Ambassadors!

We wish you all the best for the New Year - may it bring you joy, happiness, and time with the people you love.

The winners for Best Pledger, Prizes of participation and Best costume will have announced during Kootenay Morning on Friday, January 8th 2021 from 8am to 9am.

Swim tips

  • Follow 100% of BC Provincial Health Officer guidelines related to COVID-19
  • If you have a heart problem - just watch!
  • Children must swim and stay with an adult.
  • Do not drink - alcohol does not warm you up - it accelerates hypothermia.
  • Do not stay in the water longer than 15 minutes. Body heat is lost 25 times faster in water than in air.
  • Do not remove your clothing until swim time.
  • Warm up with coffee or hot chocolate around a fire!
